Neither the new restrictions nor the calls for citizen responsibility have so far yielded the desired results. The curve of the pandemic continues without giving its arm to twist, and the Region has since last Wednesday without falling below the 400 daily positives. In the last week - the worst since the beginning of this second wave - more than 2,500 infections have been detected, 12 deaths from coronavirus have been registered and 172 hospital admissions have been produced. The Region is already the sixth community with the highest healthcare pressure due to Covid-19, and it is also the sixth with the highest incidence rate, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

The new week that starts today will be key to see if the Region is capable of starting to flatten the epidemic curve, as Aragon and Catalonia achieved after suffering serious outbreaks, or if the incidence continues to increase despite measures such as the confinement of Jumilla. For now, the latest data do not invite optimism. The Ministry of Health notified 431 new cases yesterday, corresponding to Saturday. The slight decrease compared to the previous two days is attributable to the lower number of PCRs that are processed during the weekend. In fact, the percentage of tests with a positive result is close to 14% and is higher than that registered in previous days.

Of the 431 new cases, 126 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 58 to Lorca, 31 to Jumilla, 18 to Torre Pacheco, 17 to Cartagena, 17 to Molina de Segura, 16 to Alcantarilla, 16 to Totana, 13 to Alhama de Murcia, 12 to Mula, 12 to Yecla, 11 to Cieza, 11 to San Javier, 9 to Archena, 8 to Mazarrón, 8 to La Unión, 7 to Lorquí, 5 to Cehegín, 5 to Ceutí and 5 to Villanueva del Río Segura. The rest are distributed among various locations.

Hospitals are under increasing healthcare pressure, with 346 Covid patients admitted

Health also reported two new deaths from Covid. They are a 77-year-old from Jumilla and a 66-year-old woman from Murcia. With them, there are already 175 deaths from coronavirus in the Region since the beginning of the pandemic.

The number of hospitalized patients remains stable. There are currently 346 patients admitted for Covid, 61 of them in the ICU. Although there is a high number of admissions, higher than in the first wave, they are also higher than then due to the fact that, for the moment, the average age of the patients is lower.

Mayor quarantined

The increase in infections throughout the Region has as a consequence the appearance of outbreaks. The Association of the Corps of the Administration of Penitentiary Institutions (Acaip) pointed out that some 120 inmates of the Campos del Río prison are isolated after a positive test in the center. Penitentiary Institutions assures that they are not aware of this contagion. On the other hand, the mayor of Albudeite, José Luis Casales, reported that he remains in quarantine after having been with a person who tested positive, reports José Luis Piñero.

More than 20 positives among the staff of the residences
